Jan. 9 – Introduction

            Conservation planning and how/why to write a plan

            Your Small Forest -     

                        Basic forest management principles

                        Firewise

 

Jan. 16 – From Weeds to Meadows

            Topics to cover include ID, control methods, rental equipment, management plans

            High water table, sensitive soils

            Bio-controls

 

Jan. 23 – Soils & Land BMP’s

            Soils chemistry (fertility, limitations)

            Field method soil texture exercise – erodibility 

            Watering Livestock

            Erosion Control

            310 Stream Permits 

            Water Rights

           
Jan. 30 – Productive Pastures               alternate location TBA

            Irrigation

            Forage utilization; buying, feeding, cutting hay;

                        Land per animal; feed per day; predators; economics

            Nutrient management

 

Feb.6 – Clean Water – Pipes, Pumps and Permission

            Wells and well maintenance - Free Nitrate Test!

            Septic systems and leach fields

 

 Feb. 13 –  Backyard Conservation

            Living with wildlife - deer, bears, etc.

                        Other varmints (rodents, spiders, hornets, snakes, mosquitos)

            Functional Landscaping (shelterbelts, arbors, etc.)

                        Conservation plantings & native species

            Waste management
